The chapel
The chapel was built in the 18th century. This monument has been the subject of some repair; the most recent work was done on the outside and interior facades in 1998.
This edifice existed long before the graveyard was established at this location. According to engravings, a few crosses stood in front of the entrance.
The name "chapel" is derived from the Latin word "capella", which some experts associate with the cape that bishops, such as St. Martin, wear. Some 12th-century chapels in the region were part of a set of outbuildings dedicated to the functioning of a religious community. The purpose was to help the most disadvantaged.
Documents attest that another chapel had been built inside the church, at the request of the local lord,
The Vignacourt Chapel.
